POSITION SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE:
The Residential Monitor observes and interacts with clients in an inpatient substance use disorder treatment facility. This position is required to be awake and alert at all times during the hours of scheduled duties, is responsible for the clients' safety and well-being and ensures clients adhere to the weekly group schedule. This is a 24/7 facility with day, evening and night shifts available.
This position works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Required: High School Diploma or GED.
Experience Required: Some experience with substance use disorder.
Registration, Certification, Licensure or other Qualifications Required:
- Must maintain a valid Texas Driver's license, auto liability insurance and a driving record acceptable to PermiaCare's insurance requirements.
- Required to pass criminal history and background checks as well as pre-employment drug screen.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise client activity.
- Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of clients.
- Transport clients as directed.
- Document significant observations of client behavior to Program Coordinator and clients' primary counselor.
- Perform First Aid and CPR when necessary.
- Answer telephone in a professional manner with multiple telephone lines and getting messages to the proper employee.
- Report client illness, injury, or death.
- Train clients how to complete assigned housekeeping chores.
- Monitor client behavior ensuring that clients abide by program rules, expectations, and daily schedule.
- Maintain cleanliness of the facility and grounds.
- Prepare client meals.
- Provide client support as needed.
- Facilitate medication call, maintain all medication sheets and document proper distribution of medications.
- Assist nurses with obtaining vitals for clients.
- Notify counselors of client progress or problems.
- Facilitate medication administration as indicated; maintain medication administration records (MAR) and properly document distribution of all prescribed, over the counter and as needed medications.
- Maintain facility in clean, orderly fashion while on duty.
- Do regular sweeps of facility, clients and grounds checks.
- Maintain professional boundaries with clients and interact with them in an appropriate manner.
- Assist medical or kitchen staff with any related tasks.
- Assist in the admission process (UA collection, searching property, sanitization, etc).
- Thoroughly search individuals' belongings upon admission and properly dispose of any forbidden items.
- Properly log and store individuals' belongings.
- Assist with discharge process and complete necessary documentation.
- Ensure well-being of clients and provide positive, supportive and structured environment.
- Engage clients in interactions, group therapy, and activities designed to encourage achievement of treatment goals and increase therapeutic coping skills.
- Wash facility laundry (such as bedspreads, towels, ect.) left unlaundered by discharged clients.
- Complete required orientation, monthly Residential Monitor meetings, and annual update training.
- Collect urine specimens from clients and record the results upon admission.
- Meet unit performance measures or targets.
- Coordinate services to designated caseload.
- Enter accurate and appropriate documentation of services within timeframe required.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive records and treatment information, client files and protected health information in compliance with HIPAA, laws, rules and regulations, and established procedures.
- Maintain regular and reliable physical on-site attendance. Regular attendance, dependability, and promptness are required for the scheduled work day 100% of the time, to ensure consistency and completeness of program's processes.
- Comply with the Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation policy and reporting requirements.
- Adhere to the Code of Conduct and Standards of Behavior policy requirements.
- Establish and maintain effective work relationships with individuals served and their families, supervisors, co-workers and visitors by demonstrating cooperative, courteous and respectful behavior at all times.
- Communicate regularly with supervisor.
- Open and process mail/email in a timely manner.
- Answer phone, collect phone messages and respond to requests timely and accurately.
- Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
- Perform all work functions and interactions using a trauma informed approach.
- Display professionalism when representing PermiaCare and the program in the community.
- Maintain compliance with legal requirements and company policies and procedures.
- Maintain valid and current driver's license, auto insurance, acceptable driving record and reliable transportation at all times. Driving may be required for this position.
- Complete all training as assigned prior to due date.
